Tim received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in 2006 (with Peter Wainwright). He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Andy Biewener at Harvard University from 2006 to 2008. Marina was an undergraduate at the University of California, Davis and worked as a herpetology curation intern and preparator 

Since starting her PhD in the Fall of 2019, Marina studies the role of gecko tail autotomy in prey capture and locomotion, and the ecological and biomechanical consequences of tail loss. She is particularly enthusiastic about museum science, specimen-based research, and public outreach.
